What it is and why it matters
Independent inspections at key construction stages, commonly slab, frame, lock-up and fixing. Problems are documented before the next stage hides them or makes rectification harder.
Mandatory inspections focus on minimum compliance, not every workmanship issue. Independent checks can catch defects before concrete, cladding or internal linings conceal them.
What inspectors usually check
- Slab preparation, reinforcement and moisture barriers
- Frame alignment, bracing, tie-downs and penetrations
- Roof, windows, doors and the external weather envelope
- Internal linings, wet-area preparation and fixing-stage workmanship
Each visit covers the work visible at that stage. The inspector needs site access before the builder covers the relevant structure, so notice from the site supervisor is important.
